Abstract
This study examined the impact of storage and handling methods on inventory management in the organizations. It studied how improper methods affect the organizational performance particularly in the inventory management area. The study uses both primary and secondary data, which were collected from the two selected regional depots ( i.e. Dar es salaam and Mbeya) to represent the whole organization. The methods used to analyze data are mainly based on qualitative approach. However some simple statistical tests are employed to test the data and information collected. The results obtained from the discussion in this study, reveals that, poor storage methods applied by the government stores department is one of the major causes of the losses in the organization. On the other hand, the study shows that, the improper maintenance of the stores records as well as the utilization of unqualified personnel in the organization, are also contributing to the organization’s lower performance. The study concludes by showing how great the impact of storage and handling methods on inventory management is, as was observed from the performance of the government stores department
