dc.description.abstract | This study analyses reiteration in Kiswahili poetry. It identifies various types of reiterative ties used in the Kiswahili Poetry, their similarities and differences and the function of reiteration in Kiswahili Poetry. The study reveals that Kiswahili Poetry makes use of the following reiterative ties: same words, synonyms, hyponyms, superordinate’s and general words. It also shows that, the prominence occurrences of these reiterative ties depend on the length of the text. The study also shows that there are similarities and differences in the use of reiterative ties among the forms of Kiswahili Poetry as well as in each text. The similarities are: (a) all the three forms of Kiswahili poetry make use of all types of reiterative ties and (b) there is an extensive use of the same word and synonyms in each text. The texts differ in the distribution of reiterative ties in terms of numbers and frequencies. The uses of reiteration in Kiswahili Poetry are for many purposes. Some of them are to emphasize the content, to strengthen form, to intensify the idea put forward by a poet, to indicate and to stress the multiple ideas found in the text and to convey the message | en_US |
