Abstract

In this study, it is intended to look into the problems of teaching Kiswahili in the Secondary Schools in Tanzania Mainland in the light of Modern linguistics, sociopolitical, and psycholinguistic advances. The content covers three main aspects namely, Government language Policies and the way in which the policies have been implemented; the linguistic situation in Tanzania, and its contribution to the problems hitherto been discussed in this thesis and an investigation into specific problems related to pedagogy. In this thesis there are appendices of University and Secondary School syllabuses.
