The study assessed the relevance of dropout policies in addressing dropout problem in secondary schools in Dar es Salaam Tanzania three research objectives and questions guided the investments regarding dropouts in secondary schools to assess the relevance of educational policies on dropouts and to find out the gaps in implementing educational policies on dropouts in secondary schools. Tl1e study was conducted in Dar es Salaam region. Six secondary school s from Ilala, Kinondoni and Temeke districts were selected. The sample obtained using purposive sampling, comprised 6 heads of schools, 24 class teachers, 30 secondary school dropouts and 3 district education officers. The study used documentary review, interview guides and focused group discussion. The findings found that, dropout policies take long bureaucratic processes which include multiple procedures to be followed in dealing with an issue of just a single student; hence the nature of policies leads to the difficulties in addressing dropout problems in secondary schools About the relevance of educational policies to address dropout problems, it was found that policies provide good statements but the implementation process is not effective. Heads of schools face a lot of challenges in implementing the education dropout policies such as lack of parents' cooperation lack of training and orientations multiple roles to HOS, lack of teachers' cooperation and political pressure. The study recommends that, Ministry of education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) should review the educational dropout policies to remove red tape and involve other stakeholders such as school boards, parents and teachers for easy handling of dropout cases.en_US
