dc.description.abstract | SMEs, tourism and information technology (IT) are one of the factors that drive the economic development of any country. Countries around the world including Tanzania are struggling to make sure that revenue from these sectors is increased. This study specifically endeavored at investigating the effects of Internet (one of the IT infrastructures) on performance of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises (SMTEs). To illustrate these effects, 100 SMTEs using the Internet in their business operations were purposively sampled. This study found out that internet is important in improving service quality, promotion and minimizing communication cost of SMTEs in Tanzania, hence for the development of tourism industry in the country. The result found that may SMTEs are aware of the importance the internet and the reasons why they are using it. However, some SMTEs still are not certain of the benefits they get as a result of using the internet which is more likely that they are not utilizing it of its full potential. Following the findings, the paper suggests that though the Internet has cased communication, marketing, improved service quality and cost effective in the area of tourism, but other means of communication, distribution and marketing must be go hand in hand in order to keep on offering high quality tourism services. | en_US |
