dc.description.abstract | The research was aimed at analyzing the problems facing processing industry and future prospects in the lake zone. The study is organised as follows; chapter one gives background information, statement of the problem, objective of the study and plan of the dissertation. Chapter two represents literature review. Chapters three and four provide research methodology and analysis and findings respectively. Chapter five represents conclusion and recommendation. The study intended firstly to look into problems that face fish processing industry in terms of social economic infrastructure and how these problems can be minimized. Secondly, the study will look into future prospects of this industry in terms of capacity utilization and marketing strategy. Lastly the study will look into the role played by the government in promoting this industry. The study found out that there is a number of problems facing this industry in the course of its daily operations. The crucial problems to this industry are shortage in supply of fish, poor infrastructure, higher tax imposed on the products, power and water shortage; and the frequent ban to export the product from this industry. In order to solve these problems the following recommendations are proposed to be fulfilled by the government: first to reduce tax that is imposed on fish and fish products so as to make them fairly competitive to both internal and external markets; secondly, to improve socio-economic infrastructure; thirdly to help this industry in international markets, to fight for better price; and lastly, to improve working environment to the fish industry. | en_US |
