Abstract
It is now undeniable truth that technology is influencing almost every aspect of an organization's activities. The recent advances in IT evidenced by the widespread use of professional computers and powerful software, have changed the way business is conducted and the way accountants work. Microcomputers have become common in today's working environment. Most people do not think twice about how computers have changed the way in which they perform their jobs. This study specifically focused on the impact microcomputers have on the work of professional accountants in Tanzania. Four study hypotheses were developed and used in the study. Hypotheses 1 and 2 tested the effects of microcomputer usage on job satisfaction and job performance of professional accountants in Tanzania. While Hypotheses 3 and 4 tested whether perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of microcomputers have effect on the extent microcomputers are being used by professional accountants in Tanzania. The study found that job satisfaction and job performance of professional accountants are directly affected by microcomputer use. The results also show that the level of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness of microcomputers directly affect the extent of which professional accountants use microcomputers at work places. The researcher hence recommends that NBAA, training institutions, organizations and accountants to make stronger efforts to fully utilize the potentials this technology offer.
