dc.description.abstractThis study examines the images of women in two Tanzanian plays namely Alikiona and Machozi ya Mwauamke. It attempts to understand the way women have been portrayed in the selected plays. The purpose is to see the kind of images the selected plays reflect, display and portray. Chapter One visits the global women’s status in order to see widely the status of women. It brings the picture that women are not equally treated everywhere. The institutions have been always practising gender and therefore placing the woman in an uncertain state. Chapter two reviews various literatures purposely to see what other scholars have written about women. The result has revealed the same as in the previous chapter that women have been marginalized globally. Then; chapter three and four are for the analysis of the plays. It is done within the context of gender ideology framework by concentrating more on the patriarchal structures. Chapter three focuses on Alikiona. The play as discussed presents active women with awkward ambitions. Chapter four through Machozi ya M'wanamke portrays women who are determined. They tight to uplift the status of women though there are some who try to lag behind. Chapter five closes the study by presenting the findings, conclusion and recommendations. The conclusion, from the studied plays, has revealed different women with different objectives. It has been shown that women struggle to fulfil their goals though in different approaches. The study shows that women's objectives are not fulfilled because some of the women are ignorant of the battle’s perimeter. Other women lack proper vision of their rights.en_US
