The determinants of children enrolment for primary education in Tanzania; a statistical analysis

This study has been examining the relationship between primary school age going children population and primary school enrolment with respect to the provision of facilities and resources. Together with this, the differences of factors determining the primary school enrolment and their variations between regions have been also worked upon. To accomplish the task, primary school age- going children population together with provision of facilities and resources, considered to be the variables explaining primary school enrolment are investigated through Regression Modeling and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The one-way ANOVA technique was applied. The results of the analysis have shown that, there are no significant differences in primary school enrolment between regions. Finally, two models and their log transformations were fitted among which only two met the statistical criteria and were therefore adopted. The adopted models have revealed that the primary school age-going children population has been increasing at higher rate than the number of children enrolled for primary education and that the provision of facilities has been generally increased at lower rate than the rate at which the primary school enrolment increases.
