dc.description.abstractThis study explores community awareness on CBFM, Community awareness on governance aspects (Transparency and Accountability), Community attitudes towards CBFM in relation to REDD+ and Challenges facing the rural community in forest conservation in the study sites expected to participate in the implementation of REDD+ scheme in the near future. The field work was carried out through a case study of AVLFR in Liwale district. The household was the basic unit of data collection. Mixed Research Methods (quantitative & qualitative) were adopted like extensive literature review, household interviews using a structured questionnaire, key informant interviews; transect walks and FGD’s. Two villages adjacent to the AVLFR were selected as study sites. A total of 101 respondents were interviewed. Among these (10%) were sampled out of 889 households found in the study villages and 11 were the key informants who were selected purposively basing on the criteria that they are knowledgeable on matters related to CBFM and the expected REDD+ scheme. The study revealed that 78.4% of the people interviewed in the study villages understand the importance of CBFM as related to REDD+ scheme. The study shows that more than 50% of the people interviewed in all the study villagesen_US
