Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the impact of credit on poverty reduction among women entrepreneurs in Tanzania. The study was approached using case study methodology where 5 cases operating in Dar es Salaam based in Kinondoni' were involved. It also involved one MFI (PRIDE Tanzania) that provides financial support to SMEs. The main findings of the study indicate that, the process to secure loan from PRIDE involves long, cumbersome and unfriendly procedures. However, it has been uncovered that the financial support and the training provided by the firm helps the SMEs in reducing poverty through accumulation of assets, increase of purchasing power, ability to create employment to others and expansion of business capital investment. Despite such achievements, there are many challenges which hinder the performance of such SMEs. It is hereby recommended that PRIDE Tanzania and other MFIs should revisit their loan provision procedures to make them shorter, friendly and also lowering the level of interests on loans. It is also recommended that, Government should come in by providing conducive business environment, assist SMEs operators and convince the MFIs to really assist small holders.
