Providing a better water supply can significantly improve the quality of life and is a source of, and the condition for, a socio-economic development. Despite the success of the TANGA-UWASA, people living outside the city and those living at Magomeni B Street experience water shortage despite presence of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) department in the authority. This study assessed the role of M&E system in improving the performance of water supply development projects in TANGA-UWASA. Cross-sectional research design was used in the study. A sample of 110 respondents was selected. Data were descriptively analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) whereby frequency and percentages describing major variables were used. Qualitative data were transcribed. The findings (80% of respondents) revealed that the presence of continuity and reliability of water supply services was a key indicator used in M&E in TANGA-UWASA, which enabled the organization to attain its goals. Likewise, 90% of respondents reported that TANGA-UWASA utilized a strategy of enhancing stakeholders’ meetings and information dissemination that helped water users understand the services provided with regards to cost, accessibility and continuity of service provision. Moreover, 85% of respondents reported that M&E system enhanced management competency and accountability which made the authority to be trusted by stakeholders. It is recommended that water supply authorities in the country should introduce a system to check customers (water users) satisfaction regarding the services rendered to them.en_US
