This study was an attempt to investigate the relationship between extroversion- introversion and English language performance among secondary school students in Tanzania. The study made use of both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data obtained emanated from Eysenck Personality Questionnaire scale and Form-Two Pre- test and Post-tests administered to students by the researcher. In this study, there were two hypotheses to be tested. The first hypothesis is that introverts would outperform the extroverts in non-extensive English schools. The second hypothesis is that extroverts would perform better than introverts in extensive English schools. The findings in this study indicate that, both the first and second hypotheses were not supported since the level of significance for the mean difference between introverts and extroverts’ Pre-tests in Non-extensive English Schools yielded the P-value of 0.745 (P>0.05) and the P-value of 0.747 (P>0.05) in the Post-tests, and the mean difference between extroverts and introverts in Pre-tests yielded the P-value of 0.206 (P>0.05) and the P-value of 0.202 (P>0.05) in Post-tests in extensive English schools respectively. These differences are statistically insignificant. Lastly, the study made the following recommendations: (1) Teachers should employ more written tasks and tests as these are independent of students’ personality traits (2) In non-extensive English schools, where performance is lower, students should be exposed to English earlier as in extensive English schools (3) Future studies may focus on the relationship personality traits have on performance in spoken English.en_US
