This study investigates the nature and characters of beggars in Singida Municipal Council. Furthermore, it examines the reasons which make beggars in the streets, leave their homes, how they survive and meet their daily needs, what problems they encounter in the streets and how they surmount them. It is found out that Singida Municipal has, and is continuing to experience a significant influx of migrant beggars into urban centers. The problem of street beggars includes suffering from ill-health, shabbier and malnutrition. In moreover the central part of Tanzania that is Singida and Dodoma Regions face a serious problem of beggars. The study interviewed 90 beggars and adopted a multidimensional approach in collecting data of beggars in Singida Municipal. The study finds out that social-economic factors determine one’s propensity to migrate to urban areas. The survival and adjustment strategies at the area of destination show that beggars use several strategies to earn their living at the area of destination such as begging in markets and roads. It is therefore, poverty that leads people to begging as source of income. Basing on the finding of study, several recommendations are made, these includes proper Poverty reduction policies that should be adopted by region authorities and relevant ministries, CBOs and NGOs. There is need to improve agriculture technology in rural areas to attract many people to remain in rural areas.en_US
