Abstract
This study singles out work incentives as one of many possible reasons behind dissatisfaction at work places which contribute to low work morale, labour turnover and at extreme cases labour unrest. The study came up due to need to find out the reasons behind increasing labour turn over in the Non Governmental Organizations despite the fair pay in the sub sector. The main objective of the study was to find out reasons and suggestions on what should be done to improve workers morale and improve productivity. Primary data was obtained through questionnaires and interviews while secondary data was obtained from Annual reports, staff regulation manuals and other official records. In the course of analysis, both quantitative methods of analysis were used. The qualitative part includes a brief explanation on existing incentives and areas of dissatisfaction. Maslow Hierarchical model was used to rank incentives according to their importance. Analysis revealed shortcoming due to the lack of adequate and comprehensive output linked to human resources policies especially on incentive schemes. Lists of recommendations were put forward on how to improve the situation at hand. These include:
1. Training of management team on Human Resources Management.
2. Review of the current incentive scheme.
3. Replacing the job description with work/ activity plans.
4. Establishment of Human Resources section.
