dc.description.abstractThe study assessed the implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) programs in secondary schools in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam. The objectives of the study were; to find out the extent to which teachers and students are aware of ICT programs, determine the capacities and infrastructure required and relevant for implementing ICT, determine constrains of ICT implementation and lastly identify factors facilitating the learning of ICT application in secondary schools. This was a case study. Both random sampling and purposive sampling techniques were employed to select the study population. A total of one hundreds and twelve respondents and seven secondary schools were involved in the study. The information was collected through observation, open and closed ended questionnaires, interviews and documentary. The study revealed that teachers and students are aware of ICT implementation in terms of the material and knowledge obtained, sharing and storing the information easily. It also revealed that there were variation in ICT infrastructure and facilities between Government Secondary Schools and Private Secondary Schools in terms of ratio, ICT equipments and computer laboratories. The challenges hindering the implementation of ICT were inadequate funds, power rationing, inadequate professionals and internet connection. In order to facilitate the learning of ICT application, the study recommends that there should be an effective ICT policy, Government support, facilities and infrastructure, seminars and training for teachers, students also need to be encouraged to learn ICT.en_US
