Abstract

Unemployment is one of the problems which need special attention in developing countries. The main cause of unemployment among others is the lack of investment strategies and falling investment especially in sectors which have potential for employing many Tanzanians. This research sought to establish whether lack of regular, reliable and timely labour market information is the main cause of the unemployment problem in our country. Data was collected using semi structured questionnaires, observation and interview. Both qualitative and quantitative methods of dat analysis were employed. Information to individuals in industries, to jobseekers, working arrangements and conditions, issues in the workplace, employment services, training and careers, migrant workers, education and training programmes volunteering and community work is very crucial. Also information on people who are seeking employment and job search tips, now to write resumes and applications, programs for people seeking work experience. Only employment agency can provide this to the public efficiently. The study recommend that deliberate efforts should be taken to increase the public awareness on employment agency, labour market and general employment issues and the establishment of well integrated labour market information system.
