Abstract
Job satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees of an organization are most useful aspects that should be deal with great priority for an organization to realize its objectives. Without having satisfied and committed workforce, an organization is deemed to widen a gap between its goals and individual members goals, a case which is likely to lead to decline of productivity. Managers need to understand factors to consider so as to enhance job satisfaction and organizational commitment among their employees thereby reducing high labour turnover. Research institutions. specifically Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute needs to know how demographic and non-demographic traits influence job satisfaction and organizational commitment among employees. This study analyzed demographic and some selected non demographic factors that significantly influence employees' job satisfaction and organizational commitment. It further explored relationship between those demographic and non-demographic factors and job satisfaction and organizational commitment among TAFIRI staff. Moreover, this study explored levels of job satisfaction that significantly influence organizational commitment. Apparently the study revealed that research staff members are more satisfied compared to non-research staff. Married staff members are also more satisfied than single compared to non r research staff. Married staff members are also more satisfied than to the rest of staff. Generally, the study showed that staff members who are satisfied are also committed. The study recommends among other things, employees to be given opportunity to be involved in the policy development process to create a feeling of ownership and organizational belonging.
