Abstract
The exponential growth of technological innovations has stirred up new developments in banking industry. The introduction of mobile banking by commercial banks have enabled their customers to access and conduct any banking requirements from wherever they are through their mobile phones without visiting a physical branch. This innovation is not adopted and used as much as it was anticipated; among other reasons on literature perceived risk is among the key factors affecting the service.
This study aimed at determining the perceived risks associated with mobile banking that affect the commercial banks’ customers to adopt and keep using mobile banking services. The research model involved six independent variables (privacy risk, financial risk, social risk, time risk, performance and security risk). The case study of CRDB Bank customers, Kijitonyama branch located at Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam, whereas questionnaires were distributed to customers and 102 questionnaires out of 150 distributed were valid. Multiple regression analysis and descriptive statistics techniques using SPSS version 22 was used to analyze the findings whereby 5 point Likert scale was used to measure the variables significance.
Findings from the study showed that security risk, performance risk, financial risk and time risk negatively influence the adoption and usage of mobile banking services. While on the other hand social effects and privacy risk relate positively with the adoption and usage of mobile banking. And finally risk mitigation and avoidance recommendations to commercial banks, government and mobile bank customers were presented by researcher.
The study was built from the previous studies and has potential contribution to the existence literature and knowledge. Academia, government, customers and commercial banks benefit from this study.
