Solid and liquid waste management is important in our society because it has direct effect on households‟ health and society at large and the dangers that are associated with dirty environment are very serious. The disposal of solid and liquid waste problem is the most important environmental difficulty facing Tanzania. This study was conducted in Temeke municipality in Dar es Salaam Region. The main objective of this study was to determine a better method of disposal of solid and liquid waste products at household level. Data were collected by using Multi stage sampling design which involved three stages. A sample of 400 households was used, whereby structured administered questionnaires with both closed and open ended questions were used as data collection instruments. Data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistical tests that were carried out by the Chi-Square test for testing association and Binary logistic regression analysis to study the effects of independent and dependent variables with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study revealed that most of the sources of solid wastes were from plastic and rubber wastes, followed by wastes generated from shopping and wrapping contents leftovers. The findings showed the highest proportions of households used wheelbarrows and to collect and transport their solid and liquid wastes to the dump sites, with door to door method. Also special cars were used to collect and transport their liquid wastes to the dump sites. The findings revealed that the main causal of impacts of improper disposal was outbreak of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid and coughing and the main influencing factor contributed to improper waste products disposal in the household was lack of dumping areas. A better method of disposing waste products suggested by majority of the households was recycling method. The method reduces the amount of the household solid wastes that enter the dump site. The study recommends that the municipal authority has to provide enough waste collection vehicles and come out with a programme that can completely involve the communities (community participation) in managing solid domestic waste in the municipal as well as ensuring that dump sites are properly located and regulations governing environmental health are enforced in the communities.
