Procurement management as a field has been in existence since time immemorial. The existence of man has all along depended on his ability to outsource materials and services. It is clear that, the purchasing function is an integral pan of business management. the challenge for procurement is in supporting the sustained growth of the company through innovation and value contribution which includes cost avoidance and savings but also the long temp cost ownership. This study identified the problem of matching demand with capacity in procurement at TANESCO. ibis is what motivated the researcher to assess the effectiveness of procurement performance at TANESCO. The research philosophy used to address the problem was positivism, and was developed as well as tested basing on data collected. Positivism emphasises on a highly structured methodology to facilitate replication and quantifiable observation that lend them to statistical analysis. There were six major findings emanating from this study. these include lack of procurement plan, problems of late deliveries, problems of lack of finds, poor communication of specification and inspection procedures, and low motivation to employees. The major conclusion from the study was that, the effective procurement management system has not been considered as important tool in improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency hence the function does not perform for the strategic advantage. The research also recommends that, the organization should make a revise on its procurement policies.en_US
