dc.description.abstractThe study examined the secondary school curriculum relevance on Environmental Education in reducing environmental problems in the Nile basin; the case study of Makelle in Ethiopia, the extent of integration of environmental issues in the curriculum, the impact of environmental threats of the Nile basin to economy of Ethiopia and initiatives for improving environmental education in secondary school. The study adopted case study survey design in data collection, Instruments like interviews guides were used to interview students, parents, teacher and educational officials. Observation checklist was also used in gathering the information. The research also employed workshop with teachers. A total of 40 teachers, from (from government and private schools), 100 students (from governments and private school grade 9.12) 30 parents from various were as, and 5 educational officials participated in the study. The results revealed that there was problems relevance on environmental educational education in Ethiopia especially those related to the management of the Nile basin. So many problems faced the implementation of the environmental education in secondary schools. The relevance of environmental education was reduced by problems like lack of proper participation of stakeholders in curriculum develop ment. The study concludes that there is no any priority gives to learning about the Nile basin and its management in the secondary school curriculum in Ethiopia hence so relevance of Environmental Education (EE) integrated in the school curriculum. The study recommends the the government, policy makers, educational planners and educational institutions so give place so relevant contents of [3] in the secondary school curriculum which will ensure proper management of the Nile basin, hence its existence. Training of teachers in the field of environmental education is recommended and various possibilities for further research on the relevance of school curriculum.en_US
