Abstract
In 1974, the Dar es Salaam Harbour Authorities decided to add three more berths to the existing eight. This decision was based on the traffic intensity and the costs involved. In this report, some suggestions for improvement have been examined and Discussed in the light of the present arrival rate. Due to lack of time a complete solution to the problem could not be attempted, only some feasible alternatives are being suggested, under the present opera, ting conditions. These have been arrived at by assuming a M/M/S queuing model to be approximately valid, and by the method of simulation.
