dc.description.abstractThe study examined the impact of changing gender relations and food security during the HIV/AIDS period in rural Tanzania. The main purpose of this study was to examine effects of changing gender relations on food security in rural households in Tanzania during the HIV/AIDS. More specifically, study assessed firstly, how gender relations, food security have changed with the on set of HIV/AIDS era. Secondly, the study assessed emerging policy and issues at household and community especially those who were hut by HIV/AIDS. Third, the study examines prospects, challenges as well as coping strategies employed by both men and women in their diversity. Both qualitative and quantitative research techniques were used to obtain information presented in this dissertation. Qualitative sources included use of questionnaires, interviews, Focus Discussion Groups (FDG’s) and observation. Qualitative methods included the use of a structured and structured questions that were administered to respondents. Findings revealed how gender relations and status of food security have changed since the onset of HIV/AIDS pandemic in rural Tanzania. The study concluded by making several gender recommendations that the responses in the assessment of changing gender relations, food security could be enhanced by several factors. That is, the integration of many actors such as Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations, Faith Based Organizations, Government, and community in general. This is important so as to solve the problem of food insecurity, and the burden that women, children and elderly people are carrying Ivalalila village.en_US
