Abstract
The aim of the study was to assess the role of corporate social responsibility in creating good corporate image for natural gas companies in Tanzania. Specific objectives of the study were to examine the influence of environmental management by natural gas companies in creating good corporate image, to examine the influence of infrastructure development by natural gas companies in creating good corporate image, to determine the influence of provision of health facilities to locals by natural gas companies in creating good corporate image and to determine the influence of education support to locals provided by natural gas companies in creating good corporate image. A sample of 100 respondents was used in this study, whereby respondents from areas where natural gas extraction are being done were given high priority in the sample. The data were collected through questionnaire from respondents that benefit from corporate social activities. Analysis was performed by linear and multiple regression using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) software to examine the relationship between corporate social activities and their significant influence on corporate image. The results of the study showed that corporate social responsibility performed by natural gas companies have significant and positive relationship with corporate image of the company. Specifically the results indicated that there are provision of education support, infrastructure development, provision of health facilities and environmental management which are indicators of CSR. The study recommends that the companies carrying out natural gas extraction in the country on practicing CSR activities to their communities and make sure CSR policies are incorporated and implemented by their companies.
