dc.description.abstractThe main of this study was to investigate the causes of job dissatisfaction among teachers in public secondary schools. The study was conducted in Mkuranga District council, Coast Region. The study used a sample of 52 respondents, 50 of the respondents were given questionnaires and 2 were interviewed. The data collected were analyzed by using content analysis since it uses qualitative approach. This is referred as diagnostic tool of qualitative researches. TH\e data were analyzed, summarized and presented in tables. This study found out that there is no motivation strategies adopted by Mkuranga district council to the teachers. The study further reveals that teachers are not committed towards their job, there is low productivity, and there is no organization citizenship among teachers. Poor working environment, absence of compensation for overtime also found to be stumbling block to the provision of education. Finally the study found that low incentives, poor relationships between colleagues, workload and poor working environment are the factors of job dissatisfaction within teachers` in Mkuranga public secondary schools. From the findings of this study, it has been recommended that; The government should insure that it create various motivation strategies for teachers so as to increase job satisfaction and commitment, it should address poor working conditions so that teachers feel comfortable at their working places, the government officials have to adhere to Employment and Labour Relations Act by compensating teachers for all overtime worked. Alongside the Government has to improve wages and salaries to teachers to enable them live comfortable and perform their work diligently.en_US
