In Tanzania the increasingly conscience-focused marketplaces of the 21st century, the demand for more ethical business process and actions is increasing. Simultaneously. Pressure is applied on private companies to improve business ethics through new public initiatives and laws. In the early 1900s the mission of business organizations was exclusively economic, purely for profit. Similarly, the missions of all other types of organizations entailed exclusively the production of whatever goods or services they were primarily established to produce, with very little other consideration of their actions to society . The new thinking today is that all organization are social and they should be managed in a manner that respects their social responsibility to society. according to this new thinking the question of social responsibility, which was originally associated to business organization only, is extended to various other types of organizations e.g. governments, universities, nonprofit organizations, churches, mosques, etc. This study investigated the importance of corporate social responsibility to society as well as business organizations performance in Tanzania. A sample of Vodacom Tanzania ltd where by respondents from different departments and customers from different telecommunication companies were presented, which gave a total number of 90 respondents. The findings revealed that society members benefit from CSR projects as well as business organization performance increase. Profit and the high number of customers indicated the high performance of VODACOM. It was recommended that measures should be taken by the government to make sure that each business organization participate in CSR, the issue of tax relief should be clear and open for all companies so as to attract more in CSR activities. There must be a regulatory body which will regulate, coordinate and supervise corporate social responsibility issues in Tanzania.en_US
