dc.description.abstractIn 1975 the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (hereinafter referred to as the Authority) was established. The objectives of the Authority wore listed in section 5A of the Game Parks (Miscellaneous Amendments) Act 1975 Act No.14 of 1975. The main objectives are as follows; to conserve and develop the natural resources of the Conserva¬tion Area, to promote tourism within the Conservation Area and to provide and encourage the provision of facilities necessary or expedient for the promotion of tourism, to safeguard and promote the interests of Masai citizens of the United Republic engaged in cattle ranching and dairy industry within the Conservation Area, to promote and regulate the development of forestry within the Conservation Area and to promote, regulate and facilitate transport to, from and within the Conservation Area. This paper discusses the administrative arrangement relating to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (hereinafter referred to as N.C.A.). It attempts to clarify the distribution of powers and functions between the Authority on the one hand and the central government on the other. I. Presidential and Ministerial Control of the N.C.A. The management of the Authority is vested in a Board of Directors consisting of a Chairman, the Conservator and not less than six and not more than eleven other members. The principal executive officer of the Authority is the Conservator and he is responsible to the Board of Directors. He is assisted by as many assistant Conservators as the relevant Minister may consider necessary. Presently there are three Assistant Conservatorsen_US
