Abstract
The study examined the factors which influence the adoption of mobile money use amongst Tanzania Small Businesses in East Africa. The study was guided by three study objectives namely; the influence of accessibility, perceived security and operational cost to mobile money service use. A total of 50 respondents were conveniently selected from the population of all Small Businesses in Dar es Salaam Region. Moreover, purposive sampling was used to gather indepth information from five key informants who were businesses owners. The obtained data were analysed quantitatively with the support of qualitative design. The former involved the use of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The later involved indepth information analysis that was gathered from purposively selected five key informants.
The findings indicate that, all the three variables had positive effect on the adoption of mobile money service use. However, only two variables namely; accessibility and perceived security with the mean score of 3.8 each had strongest influence on the mobile money service adoption. The other variable of operational cost had positive but modest influence on the adoption of mobile money service with the mean score of 3.1. Based on the study findings, it is concluded that, small businesses adopt the use of mobile money service mostly due to accessibility and perceived security.
The study recommends that there is a need for small businesses to continue using mobile money services in their operations so as to enhance their businesses. It is recommended that careful attention is to be paid to enhance the two strongest variables namely; accessibility and perceived security for better performance of mobile phone.
