dc.description.abstract | “Business without promotion is like blinking a pretty lady in the dark” Kibera and Chage (1998) Promotion is vital for any business in this world given the today’s economy which is characterized with close substitute products and improved services; for any operator whether service or products has ensure effective way of communicating his/ her services/ projects just to capture the market. Health insurance is an emerging industry in Tanzania with currently, more than four providers in the country; main target of these companies has been corporate with no clearly seen/ and defined communication/ promotion channel/ tools that are using in an attempt to catch the market. This research tries to define different promotion tools that might be used and looking at the current actual practice with situation analysis giving life to the findings. The findings show that personal selling is highly rated and used as an effective promotion tools so far, followed by public relation (media and publicity) there is a policy which hinder advertising of health services for private companies but leaving the chance free for public companies like NHIF; however advertising rate for NHIF is merely poor. The research intended to study the actual practices, identify gaps on the current existing tools, identifying challenges encountered on developing promotion strategies and lastly gave out, recommendation’s and suggesting ways to improve this industry. Two providers were selected, namely AAR and NHIF and two corporate users were also selected just to receive feedback from the service receivers; the findings drawn continue showing a big variation between service offered and communication of the same or within the same for in respect of benefit and value adding. | en_US |
