Abstract
This study investigates the factors leading to employee turnover in Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), a case of Care International in Tanzania (care Tanzania). The specific objectives of this study were to identify employee turnover features in the NGOs; to investigate why workers leave their former employee turnover in order to improve organization strategies used to control employee turnover in order to improve organisation performance. The study employed qualitative and methodological approach to get both primary and secondary data. The researcher used data collection methods: questionnaires, semi-structured interviews including email interviews, personal observations, and documentary review. The study covered a sample seventy five (75) out of two hundred thirty seven (237) respondents from Care Tanzania. The research reveals that employees desert their work places due to inadequitable renumerations, personal discretion, unfriendly labour relations, unimproved terms and conditions of work, expires of contracts, and incentives, short tenure and less security of employment. The study has displayed unenforceable Human resource policies and limited opportunities for employee turnover in Care Tanzania. The workers` turnover is paramount with unnecessary expenses to the organisation because the organisation is forced to employ, orient and train new employees now and then. The NGOs are advised to effectively improve in the staff retention strategies such as staff orientation, training and development programs; improve remunerations and other incentives; improve tenure of employment; improve information and communication technology. In form of chapters, the study is composed of introduction; literature review; research methodology; data presentation, analysis and discussion; summary, conclusion, and recommendations.
