Abstract
This study examined some aspects of the management and issues of foreign Technology in Road construction projects, using the experience of Tanzania, by focusing on the two case studies. The study was prompted by the need to understand further the impacts of dependence on foreign technology and related managerial capability as well as related the implications/ or manifestations in developing countries like Tanzania. The study reviewed road construction management and related technological aspects in Tanzania.The study reviewed road construction management and related technological aspects in Tanzania. The study write up is divided into five parts. Chapter one deals with the theoretical framework of the problem of the study. Issues discussed in this chapter include historical background of the research problem, objectives and social significance of the study, hypotheses, literature review, methodology and definitions. Chapter two presents an overview of the development of the Road construction industry in Tanzania. In this chapter, the origins and development of the construction industry and the development of other consultancy, design and contractor services are discussed. In this chapter, the road network development the role of Roads Division of MOCW, the role of the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) of the University of Dar es Salaam and the National construction Council (NCC) in the development of the construction sector in Tanzania are also discussed. Chapter Three, gives the project profiles of the two Road construction projects. Chapter four gives the research findings with special reference to technology acquisition and technomanagerial issues of the two road construction projects. Finally, chapter five gives a summary of the conclusions and recommendations of the study.
