Abstract
This study examines determinants of commodity export performance in developing economies. It mainly focuses on assessing Determinants Cashew nut in Tanzania from 1980 to 2012. It employs econometric analysis in which the Ordinary Least Square technique is adopted and applied for regression analysis. Stata 12 is used for the econometric analysis. Econometric findings show that five out of six variables were significant on contribution to dynamics of cashew nut export performance in Tanzania. The estimation results for the regression equation indicate that while the national GDP is insignificant, both exchange and inflation rates negatively affect the export performance of cashew nuts in the country. Production quantity, producer price (farm gate price) and export price are positive determinants for cashew nuts export performance in the period understudy. To safeguard the existence and better performance of cashew nuts export volume and value, the government is advised to consider the above determinants in its policy making machinery by re-investing its exports revenues in agro processing equipment & technologies and human capital. Also the government should ensure that there is only a small margin between the producer prices and world price of cashew nuts, so that the farmers can benefit substantially from international market as well as diversifying the export portfolio to trigger the rise in value of Tanzanian shilling for improving export growth in the cashew nuts sector.
