This study was undertaken in Muyovosi, Mtabila I & II refugee camps at Kasulu district in Kigoma region, Tanzania. One hundred and fifteen respondents participated. The main objective of the research was to investigate the health status of the refugee children under five years. Specifically, the study aimed at identifying common diseases, examined nutrition, and evaluated availability of health care facilities and services as well as the hygiene and living surrounding of a child in the camps. The study adopted criterion-research design and the research approaches used were qualitative and quantitative. Methods used during data collection included interviews, documentary review and observations, which were, facilitated by research instruments such as research questions, questionnaires, observation and documentary review schedules. The result of this study indicated that the major common diseases in the camps were communicable and nutrition related diseases in which malaria seemed to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality cases for both under five and other population groups. Furthermore, health service in the three camps was not good due to lack of essential facilities and food supply was not sufficient as it lacked nutrients. The researcher recommends for immediate action that: Health facilities to be provided to refugees, children are provided with enough and nutritive food and the number of UNHCR and MCH officers should be increased. Further study should be conducted in other camps in Tanzania and health of youth and adults should also be studied.en_US
