Abstract
The objective of this strategic management study was to investigate and assess the impact associated with introduction Enterprise Resource Planning ( ERP ) system into a large organization like Japan Tobacco International, for streamlining and standardizing processes, making JTI a truly global company and manipulation of data into decisions using real time data, which eventually will enhance business performance, customer satisfaction and other key performance indicators in the tobacco industry. The study under consideration utilized a descriptive study to collect required information to meet the objective of the study. Primary and secondary data sources were used. For primary data, structured questionnaires ( for TCC employees and wholesalers within Dar es salaam region ) and oral interviews with TCC employees for in-depth information were employed). The results of the study revealed that there is a significant positive change in the Enterprise value, resulting from the investiment in information Technology. There is a high degree of process` streamlining standardizing, having real time data for decision making etc. some weaknesses were also spotted for improvement. Last but not least, conclusions and recommendations were made. More weakness ( straining ) to the system; improvement of it infrastructures, strategic plans to replace the un-trainable personnel and reduction of paper work with the system in place are required.
