The study was conducted under four research objectives. These were; to identify the types of students’ misbehaviours, to find out the causes of students’ misbehaviours, to explore the effects of students’ misbehaviours and to find the solutions for students’ misbehaviours. The study used descriptive research design with both qualitative and quantitative approaches used. Questionnaires, interviews, documents’ review and group discussions were the methods of data collection. The study found out that the major students’ misbehaviours in schools were improper wearing of school uniform, unauthorized exit from school, scribbling on walls, illegal sexual activities, vandalism, fighting, stealing, verbal insults to teachers and fellow students, alcoholism, secret cult, arson, boycotting, rioting and raping. Also it was found out that these misbehaviours were caused by parents, teachers and administrators, environment and religion. The study further found out the effects of students’ misbehaviours to be; decline in academic performance, failure to finish studies, destruction of properties, defaming of the school image, psychological problems, wastage of time, fear and insecurity at school. The study suggested the following to curb students’ misbehaviours; provision of rules and regulations to every student, suspension, caning, guidance and counselling. The study recommended that; there is a need for educational stakeholders to cooperate in modifying students’ behaviours, teachers and students to be responsible in their duties. Religious activities at school should be handled carefully. Also, schools should be fenced, students’ enrollment should consider the available supporting resources and lastly, there should be different entertainment programmes for students at school in order to keep them busy when they are free of studies. | en_US |
