The purpose of this study was to gain some knowledge about adolescents’ ideas and areas of concerns in their relation to parents, school, future occupation and poor’s. The data were gathered by questionnaires which were distributed among one hundred adolescents and one hundred preadolescents. The answers of the adolescents were tested against those of the preadolescents in order to identify typical adolescent ideas and areas of concerns. Two other variables were included, namely environment and sex differences. The results were analysed by the Chi-Square test and in order to facilitate better interpretation, percentages ware calculated. The results showed significant differences in ideas and areas of concern between adolescent and preadolescent age groups. Differences in answers also occurred between urban and rural adolescent as well as between boys and girls. Adolescents ware more obedient than preadolescents in their relation to parents but many adolescents experienced difficulties in school. Regarding future occupation and work and peer relations both the preadolescent and the adolescent group showed developmental differences as adolescents’ responses were more mature. As the environmental differences, rural adolescents complained about lack of pocket money whereas urban youth felt that teachers treated them like children. Furthermore, urban adolescents preferred to work in towns rather in villages. The main differences in answers between sexes showed that more adolescent boys than girls had problems with their parents. In their relation to work girls did not dislike rural activities as much as boys. Nevertheless fewer girls were willing to work in Ujamaa villages.en_US
