To speak of metaphor is to speak about one of the significant linguistic and literary devices and how it is used in particular language. This study investigates the use of metaphor in Chaga( Vunjo) folk tales and oral poetry using stylistic analysis. It identifies the metaphor used in the selected folk tales and oral and oral poems. It also compares and contrasts the use of metaphor between the two genres in terms of types and frequencies. The analysis reveals that in folk tales concretive and synesthetic metaphors are widely used by the narrators. The narrators manipulate the objects in the environment in which they live in creating metaphorical images. Also the study reveals that synesthetic metaphor is widely used in oral poetry texts. It is noted that the type of metaphor used depends on the imaginative power of the poet to create familiar object that is used as an explanation of abstract ideas or less familiar event. While there are some similarities identified in the way the two genres use metaphor, the study has also noted some significant different in the use of metaphor between the two genres.en_US
