The aim of this study was to assess the impact of trade liberalization on poverty reduction in Tanzania, focusing mainly on traditional agricultural crops. The study focused on the performance of agriculture trade liberalization and poverty reduction under the following areas, exports of traditional agricultural crops, investment in the sector, inflation and exchange rates, population growth and trade openness in the crops sub-sector to the welfare of the people. This study was based on secondary data and data analysis was done to examine the performance of the traditional agricultural crops and other constraints inhibiting poverty reduction in Tanzania. Ordinary Least Square (OSL) method was used to estimate the regression model. The findings revealed that there is a slightly positive relation between trade liberalization in the agriculture sector and poverty reduction. On the other hand, the study found out that there is a negative impact on inflation and exchange rates. The findings of the study suggest that, the government has to create policies which can enable construction of industries for agro-processing and provide employment for the local people. Also, the study suggests that government policies should be directed to enable producers especially, farmers who constitute a large number of Tanzanian population to get quick and reliable information on market prices and set farm gate prices. Finally, the study suggests that the investment policies should be directed to attract more companies to invest in hard infrastructures and provide soft loans in the Agricultural sector.en_US
