Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the impact of information systems in successful management of human resource planning by examining management and government support, human resources practitioners, staff/end-users’ perceptions and successful management of human resource information system (HURIS).A total of 130 questionnaires were distributed to respondents and the researcher received back 100 questionnaire. Respondents were accessed at Tanzania Prisons Services headquarters, Ukonga Central prison and Ukonga Staff College. Findings from the study revealed that there was a positive relationship between Information Systems (IS) impact on human resource practitioners and successful management of HURIS. On the other hand, there was no relationship between IS impact on management/government support and staff/end-users’ perceptions. Based on the findings, the study recommends that practitioners in both public and private sectors should opt for technology, which is easy to use, understand, flexible, maintainable, accessible and responsive. Such pattern can be harnessed as a feedback mechanism to highlight users’ perceptions on strengths and weaknesses. Strengths could be used for reinforcing the system or service, while weaknesses would signal areas for improvement.
