dc.description.abstractThis study was intended to assess staff training and development in the Evangelical Lutheran in Tanzania (ELCT), the Case of Northern Diocese (ND). A total number of 68 respondents who were involved in the study were identified purposively. Data were collected through questionnaires, documentary review, interviews, observations and focus group discussion. The qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis technique. Quantitative data were analyzed with the aid of the Statistical Package of social Sciences (SPSS) Program. The study has demonstrated that the main factors among others that affect staff training and development; to document staff training and development policy; training some of its staff in Human Resources Management (HRM) in order to advise the management on key elements of staff training including, training needs analysis on which training is based; conduct performance appraisal annually and train its own experts hand-in-hand with former and newly established institutions.en_US
