This study investigated contribution of school committee towards quality education attainment in primary schools in Moshi Rural District Council. Specifically, it explored: school committee conceptualization of quality education; roles of school committees in attaining quality education; and the challenges that school committees face when implementing quality education in primary schools. The study employed a case study research design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), documentary reviews and non¬participant observation. The sample was 75 whose composition was follows: 5 head teachers, 5 school committee chairpersons, 5 teacher representatives and 35 members of the school committees as well as 20 parents. Findings revealed that contribution of school committees were minimal. This was mainly due to inadequate knowledge about what constitute quality education. Data also suggested that education was perceived as so important by both school committee members and the community. Also, findings underscored that, despite the good efforts school committees ensured that there was provision of quality education. The study revealed that schools were facing a number of problems, namely: funding, teachers’ shortage, lack of teaching and learning materials as well as lack of education among some members of the school committee and parents. The study concluded that quality education was imperative for the present and future generations. The study recommended that school committees should acquire and familiarize with appropriate policies and documents. Awareness should also be equipped to members of school committees, parents and community around through village meetings in order to be informed on what is going on in the schools.en_US
