The objectives of the study were to investigate the individual factors that influence job satisfaction within healthcare sector, to examine the organizational factors that lead to job satisfaction within public healthcare sector and to determine employees’ attitudes on job satisfaction within public hospitals. The study involved a sample size of 60 respondents, where by data collection methods included questionnaire and documentary review. The study used an exploratory research design. The processing of data was assisted by the use of SPSS. The study concludes that there are individual and organizational factors influencing job satisfaction within healthcare sector. However, it can also be concluded that a good salary, incentives and bonuses are good ways for improving employee’s job satisfaction. Also, the human resource policies used are not sound and practical. Moreover, the hospital provides limited opportunities for training and development to its employees. Again, there were no good ways of supervising and involving employees in decision making within the Hospital. Additionally, the study found that employees are likely to leave their job because of unfair treatment. Nevertheless in the organization there were no enough tools and resources needed for employees to do their job well. The study recommended that, the government through the respective ministry has to increase the opportunities and support for training and development as the healthcare professional requires updated health knowledge due to new diseases. The government should improve the working condition especially in rural areas. Also communication between top management and subordinates should be improved for a better work performance. Moreover, the government should make much effort to satisfy healthcare professionals as they are more likely to leave their job due to dissatisfaction from both individual and organizational factor.enJob satisfactionPublic healthMwananyamala HospitalDar es Salaam regionFactors influencing job satisfaction in public health sector: a case of Mwananyamala hospitalThesis
