The study focused on selected manufacturing firms in Dar es Salaam. The sample for this study involved 80 respondents who were owner managers, managers and employees of selected SMEs. Random sampling was used in the study where members of staff from various SMEs were selected and issued with questionnaires. Primary data collection instrument used was questionnaire. The data collected was then analyzed by both descriptive and statistical tools by use of Software Package for Social Science (SPSS) and the information generated was presented in form of figures and tables. In this study, the controlling factors on effective pricing strategies, focused on industrial products were approached from different analyses. More importantly, the role of cost, demand, company objectives and value on pricing was analyzed as well as competitive market conditions. The study found out that there was a strong positive correlation between cost, customer, demand, company objectives, competition and pricing strategies. However, the findings as per study objectives, which were difficult to generalize, revealed that combination of the variables cost, competition, company objectives, customer and demand have a prominent influence on effective pricing strategy to the SMEs in Tanzania. From the findings, the study recommends that the enterprises should focus more of its effort on utilization of proper pricing strategy because there was a significant level of effect of pricing strategy on cost, demand, competition, customer and objectives of the firm. The government should make a major reform on SME policy which will harness the breeding environment for small firms to growth and performance.enSmall businessPricingDar es SalaamTanzaniaDeterminants of effective pricing strategies for small and medium enterprises in Tanzania: the case of selected manufacturing smes in Dar es SalaamThesis
