This is a flood wave propagation model based on finite difference method, using an implicit scheme for the dynamic and diffusion wave for solving the Saint-Venant equations. The adequacy of the model for flood phenomenon reconstruction is examined with the hope of transferring similar techniques to other river systems within the basin which are also prone to flooding as soon as the hydrometric and geometric data becomes available. The carrying capacity of the channel is computed using Manning's equation for purposes of comparison with the simulated discharges at each cross section. The calibration of the model was not carried out because of lack of hydrometric data for the channel at any point between the upstream and downstream boundary conditions. As regards to the accuracy, numeric stability and computing time the results obtained are highly satisfactory. The model is found to be adequate for discharge predictions in the Kiwira RiverenHydraulic modelsFlood routingTanzaniaHydraulic flood routing model for Kiwira river in Lake Nyasa basinThesis
