Commodity-based money dates back to antiquity, money in in its present primarily token form (i.e., money that does not exist in any physical form but takes the form of financial claims on banks and other financial institutions) has only assumed predominance during the past 100 years (Vhown, 1994). The banking of this money is now referred to as e banking. Technology has introduces new ways of delivering banking services to customers in the world, Tanzania although a developing nation has embraced this technology and application of e- banking in automated teller machines and internet banking is now a common phenomena. Customer can enquire balance give instruction for payment and receive payments through e money and e banking using mobile phone or internet. The domicile branch concept is now over. The adoption of e banking in Tanzania was not backed by any findings. This study explores the impact of e banking on performance of banks and whether there is an established quantitatively relationship between increase in e banking services and increase in number of customers, increase in bank profit. According to Pikkarainen et al.(2004), cost savings flowing to banks that provides online rather than physical services and the move to a more self-service mode because branch banking took too much time and effort.
