Sample analysis was based on 70 former employees of formal organizations who had shifted to entrepreneurship with business ventures in Nairobi which were in place for a period of at least two years. Quantitative methods of analysis were used to categorize respondents in order to get their characteristics. The study employed the explanatory research design to establish the cause-effect relationship of the various independent variables with the dependent variable. The study used structured questionnaires to collect data from respondents who had been identified through snowball sampling methods. The research findings indicated that past roles occupied by employees and organizational context in which employees worked predicted likelihood of shift to entrepreneurship. The findings further showed that employees, though working for the same organizations are exposed to different types of information that influenced their likelihood to shift to entrepreneurship. It can therefore be said, that entrepreneurship is the outcome of organizational process and that organizational context may either hinder or stimulate new venture creation. The organizations should be encouraged to make work adjustments to allow employees access non-redundant information and networks in order to build an entrepreneurial culture. This could be done through provision of relevant training programmes, increased access to internet and job rotations.enEnterpreneurshipNairobiKenyaFactors influencing employees shift from formal employment to entrepreneurship in Kenya: a case of Nairobi countyThesis
