The study was carried out using the survey approach where only SMEs in Dar es Salaam were involved. The study covered Magomeni, Manzese and Karume areas. Findings of the study indicate that, micro lending activities have really changed the social economic status of SMEs. These changes include increase of sales units, level of employment and sustainability of the whole programme. It is thereby recommended that MFIs should open more branches, especially in rural areas where the majority of the Tanzanian are found. If this is done the process of economic development of the nation would speed up.enLoansPoverty reductionSmall and medium enterprisesTanzaniaThe impact of micro lending on poverty reduction in small and medium enterprises (SMEs): the case of National Microfinance BankThesis
