The aim was to study and examine the typology and chronology of the Kaiso Beds which were not well known. This is because initially, the area was only known for being a paleontological site. The study employed systematic survey and archaeological excavations as its basis for data collection. Materials recovered were lithics, pottery and faunal remains. Excavation, trenches were shallow reaching up to almost 50cm only. However, surface collections yielded quite a number of cultural materials. Therefore, to aid in answering the problem both surface and sub¬surface materials were collected and studied. Results from surface collection indicated presence of two cultural periods in this area, that is; the MSA industry and the LSA industry suggestive of an interface industry. Cultural materials from excavation indicated that lower stratigraphic sequences consisted of exclusively LSA cultural materials while the upper layers had IA mixed with LSA. Apparently, this area had had an occupation of people of different cultural ages. It was deduced that this area was a temporary settlement due to the shallow depth of the stratified materials but this could also be due to severe erosion to which the cultural deposits must have been subjected. It was also considered a factory site owing to the enormous amounts of lithic remains particularly debitage. It has been concluded that this area needs more studies to assess the significance of the stray artifacts; a core axe and broken hand axe recovered during survey which may be suggestive of the Sangoan but were not represented in excavation.enArchaeological surveyingArchaeological assemblagesAlbertine riftUgandaKaiso village Excavations (Archaeology),Establishing and characterizing the archaeological assemblages of the Albertine rift in Uganda: a case of kaiso villageThesis
