Individuals rights and freedoms are essentially intended to promote equality, non-discrimination, human dignity, freedom, justice and peace. Therefore, states are bound not only to show their endeavours to recognize these rights into their constitutions and laws, but also to respect, protect and promote them. However, there has been violation of individuals rights and freedoms by the parliamentary committee on privileges. This dissertation ‘’ parliamentary committee on privileges in Tanzania: the protection of individual Rights and Freedoms’’ primarily aimed at analysing critically, the extent to which the parliamentary standing orders guarantees rights and freedoms of individuals appearing before the committee on Privileges. It has been observed in this study that Parliamentary Standing Orders does not provide for procedures for the inquiry the manner it like and consequently; it has been violating the rights and freedoms of individuals appearing before it. Individual are not properly heard, the committee is biased and there is no room for aggrieved person to appeal against the decision. It is concluded in this research that rights of individuals appearing before the committee on privileges are still at stake. Therefore, there is a need for the parliament of Tanzania to review its standing orders and other relevant legislations in order to ensure respect, promotion and protection of individual’s rights and freedoms.en_US
